Dear colleagues
*Apologies for cross-posting*
The call for papers for the annual symposium of the British Sociological Association study group 'The Social Aspects of Death, Dying and Bereavement' (also known as 'DDB') is now open and available using the following link:
http://www.britsoc.co.uk/NR/rdonlyres/899120A7-52F8-4F22-B68F-95190A9BA840/0/DDB_2011.pdf
Celebrating the 20th year the group has been running, the theme for this year's event in London on 21st November is 'The Impact of Death'. We invite abstracts by 17th September that consider the policy implications of any issue associated with death, dying and bereavement.
It is anticipated that topics covered by this wide ranging call could include the ageing population, ethics and end of life care including euthanasia and assisted suicide, death education, commercialisation, regulation, the environment, medical technology, ideology, the political economy of death, families, and religion. Also welcome are papers which address the way in which death, dying and bereavement are included/excluded in policy, and questions about where we will be in 20 years time.
I hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a highly topical day, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Best Wishes
Kate
