The Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit undertakes research on the developmental, genetic and behavioural determinants of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and on the translation of epidemiological findings into preventive action. The MRC Epidemiology Unit is based within the new Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS) building in Cambridge on the Addenbrooke's site.
Data Analyst - FTC 27 months
Salary: £20,074 - £27,271 per annum
We are pleased to offer this new fixed-term, full-time post located at the MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge. The post holder will be responsible for data management activities required for research studies within the Prevention group of the MRC Epidemiology Unit under the auspices of the UKCRC Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), with particular emphasis on the Commuting and Health in Cambridge (www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/Research/Studies/Commuting/) and iConnect (www.iconnect.ac.uk) studies. The Data Analyst will liaise with research scientists, other unit staff and collaborating organisations to ensure the accurate, efficient and secure handling of data and to enable analyses related to project work to occur in a timely manner. The post holder will be required to handle a wide variety of data, work with a number of centrally provided tools and systems and with a number of specialist data handling groups related to anthropometric, biochemical, diet, and physical activity data. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr David Ogilvie (Clinical Investigator Scientist), working in a multidisciplinary research group and working closely with the Data Management team.
To be successful, applicants will need to have a BSc or equivalent in a subject allied to mathematics, scientific or information technology and / or data management. This post provides opportunities to develop data management skills, to work on existing data collected in several population based, observational studies, and to establish collaborative links with colleagues in the MRC and elsewhere.
