Thanks Gary. Based on below do you expect we will still see clarification from the Gov on the specific duties by the end of July?
Also will the GEO be taking into consideration the responses from the previous/current consultation?
Many thanks
James

Subject: red tape challenge
Dear all,
I am sure many of you are aware of the Government’s Red Tape Challenge. From today, for the next 3 weeks, equalities is in the spotlight on the Red Tape Challenge Website (http://www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/themehome/equalities-act/).
ECU is part of the Equality and Diversity Forum, a group of organisations that are committed to equality and diversity. At our meeting yesterday, representatives from the Government Equalities Office (GEO) gave an update on the Red Tape Challenge.
The GEO acknowledged that the previous way the Equality Act 2010 had been listed on the website had not been helpful and in fact that of the 6,500 responses received, they believed that about 96-98% of responses had been to keep the Act as is it. However, they alluded that they had some evidence that businesses were concerned about the some of the regulatory burden of the Act, but did not provide anything more substantial.
When asked about how the responses were to be used, it was indicated that Ministers would look at the responses to see if there were areas of concern. If so, they may then open a formal consultation on removing that part of regulation.
The red tape challenge website has now split the Act into various areas, and institutions and practitioners may wish to comment on any of these. ECU is currently deciding how best to respond to this.
With best wishes,
Gary
