Ciriaco d'Ancona and the Visual Arts
The fifteenth-century traveler and antiquarian Ciriaco d'Ancona is well
known as one of the earliest and most original observers of the art and
architecture of antiquity. His drawings and descriptions of ancient
monuments have long been analyzed by scholars. More recently, his roles
as a collector of antiquities and consultant on artistic projects have
begun to receive attention. This panel welcomes new research on
Ciriaco's various artistic endeavors. Papers might address his
activities as an artist, patron, collector, writer on art, adviser to
artists, or any other topic that sheds light on Ciriaco's relationship
with the visual arts.
Send an abstract (maximum 150 words) and short c.v. to co-organizers
