Dear group,
Please find below details of the First Annual European Congress on Learning Disabilities. The conference is being held by Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW®). LDW is pleased to announce its first congress outside the U.S.A., which will be held at the University of Applied Sciences of Special Needs Education in Zürich, Switzerland. We invite proposals for sessions related to its theme "Learning Disabilities: Research and Education." Areas of interest include all aspects of language-based and nonverbal LD, ADHD, dyslexia, reading difficulties, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, processing disorders, and developmental disabilities. The purpose of the conference is to present and exhibit the most up-to-date information to a diverse audience, which includes researchers and practitioners (teachers, educators, sociologists, psychologists, social workers, physicians, etc.). You are invited to be among those presenters who come from a variety of different countries inside and outside of Europe.

Online Conference Proposal Submission
Potential presenters are requested to submit their abstracts for a research paper, a practical paper, a poster, or a panel discussion by filling out the form below. The conference language will be English and no translation service will be provided. The abstract length should be between 300 and 500 words. All received submissions will be verified automatically by a return email. Please contact Matthias Grünke ([log in to unmask]) in case you did not receive your confirmation. Each proposal will be reviewed by at least two members of our conference committee. Based on this review, your abstract will be accepted, rejected, or offered an alternative presentation format. The decision will be emailed to you by June 30, 2011. You are welcome to be an author of more than one submission. The abstracts of all accepted presentations will be published online as well as in a booklet, which will be distributed to all participants. LCD projectors and laptops will be provided for research papers, practical papers, and panel discussions free of charge. Please note that a photocopy service will not be available at the conference.
Research papers
Our definition of research is inclusive, comprising original studies, informed scholarship, and critical reflection. We welcome all proposals that are scientifically sound and address one of the conference themes. The methods by which authors come to their ultimate conclusions must have been used in a way that is accepted by the research community. Papers will be allocated 20 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions and answers.
Practical papers
Practical presentations should demonstrate various aspects of empirically supported interventions or assessment techniques for people with learning disabilities or related problems. We welcome all proposals that provide up-to-date and evidence-based information that can be implemented in the daily work of professionals. Please note that abstracts that consist of invalidated descriptions of procedures or personal accounts cannot be accepted. Papers will be allocated 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Posters
Posters can either focus on research or practice. We welcome all proposals that deal with the same aspects as papers. Poster presentations will be organized in chaired sessions. Authors will be assigned 10 minutes in which they can present their work and answer questions. During poster sessions, no other conference activities will take place.
Panel Discussions
During panel discussions, three to five speakers debate over a controversial issue relevant to one of the conference themes. We welcome all proposals that state the different viewpoints of the panel members and provide a meaningful overall description of the session, which highlights its significance for the audience. It is preferable, but not mandatory that the speakers come from different backgrounds (research, teaching, administration, etc.). Panel discussion should start with a 5 to 10 minute presentation from each participant, followed by a dispute moderated by the session organizer. A minimum of at least 20 minutes at the end of each session is reserved for a general discussion, allowing all attendees to participate. The total time allocated will be 90 minutes. Abstracts must list the names and affiliations of all panelists.
