Anthony:
Beyond metal/grindcore, you'll find a similar fascination with disability in band names, graphics and song titles/topics in the industrial/power electronics scene, which is where I like to spend a lot of my non-work time. Can be pure shock value, but in some cases it's an explicit 'identification with the other' kind of thing, and in some cases it's flying your own freak flag publicly. And of course we've got the 'other' SPK ;-) (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPBpYIZC9PM not this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Patients'_Collective although the first was named after the second).
This music is, of course, not 'popular' in the usual sense, LOL :-)
