The following PhD Studentship at the University of Leeds, Institute for Transport Studies, is available for UK and EU residents:
White Rose ESRC DTC Collaborative Studentship
Topic: Understanding Passenger's Behavioural Responses to Public Transport Network Reliability
This project will study and develop methods to assess the demand impact or cost effectiveness of measures aiming to improve the reliability of urban public transport in London. It will analyse the interactive relationship between network reliability and individuals' travel choices using records from Transport for London's Oyster card database such as frequency of card usage, time of travel, route, destination etc). By deriving information on actual individual behaviour from the data source this work will be able to provide a robust assessment of the value of reliability, required to assess the worth of individual schemes producing reliability improvements. The project will also assess how operators can provide the most adequate types of information when schedule deviations are expected to take place and market reliability improvements more effectively. This research will therefore provide a procedure for monitoring reliability from Oyster and real time information data.
Value of Award
For those with UK fees status, a full standard studentship consists of academic fees of £3,732, together with a maintenance grant of £13,590 and a Research Training Support Grant for applicants.
