RCUK Energy Programme funded PhD Studentship
University of the West of England, Bristol
Department of Geography and Environmental Management

Following the award of an PhD Studentship as part of the travel behaviour project "Disruption: the material for low carbon change" funded by the Research Councils UK Energy Programme, the University of the West of England, Bristol invites applications for a doctoral studentship commencing on 1st September 2011.

This three-year doctoral studentship is on 'The role of disruption in transport plans and travel plans' and will examine how current and historic attempts to modify travel behaviour have directly or indirectly used disruption at a personal or social scale to change people's travel practices, and what lessons might be transferable to other unsustainable behaviours.

The studentship is part of an interdisciplinary research project involving 7 UK Universities. The student will be expected to play a significant role in interacting with the wider project and contributing to the overall programme of work. The supervisors for the studentship will be from the Air Quality Management Resource Centre and the Centre for Transport and Society.
