AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award: A History of the Glasgow International Jazz Festival
The School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow, working in conjunction with the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, is delighted to announce the commencement of a new doctorate based on a history of the Festival. The doctorate will commence in October 2011 and will be full time for three years. The project will involve writing a critical history of the festival which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2011. Working in conjunction with the festival and under the supervision of its Director, Jill Rodger, the successful applicant will draw on sources such as the festival's extensive archive and interviews with key personnel to construct the history. They will develop other databases as appropriate with academic supervision provided by Professor Martin Cloonan and Dr Björn Heile.
We wish to recruit a student interested in jazz and/or the socio-political contexts within which popular music operates. The successful applicant is likely to have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area and/or equivalent music industries experience in addition to an undergraduate fdegree.
Applicants should send a letter of application including a full CV and up to 500 words on why they are a suitable candidate for this position. They should include the names of two academic referees who should be asked to send references in. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that references are submitted by the closing date.
