Hello all
Firstly, as I'm new, and at Sheenagh's request, a bit about me. I am the Senior Disability Officer here at the University of Birmingham. I support numerous deaf students, although they tend to be on the mild-moderate range.
We have some BSL users on CPD courses, but have had very few undergraduates who use sign language. Main issues tend to be sourcing electronic notetaking support! We use agencies for all our NMH support.
Could anyone give me advice on supporting BSL users on Social Work courses? I have a meeting with an applicant tomorrow, who has so far been very uncommunicative...I am mainly concerned about the placements, and I know that the department are worried that she cannot use a telephone. I've thought about minicom, but know this would need an analogue line, which may take time (and money) to install.
What other issues have people come across?
Any help or advice much appreciated!
