3rd SOUTHEAST ASIA UPDATE – CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
Friday 24 June 2011, 10.00 – 17.00 hrs
Leiden University Law Faculty, Kamerlingh Onnes Gebouw B017
Steenschuur 25, 2311 ES Leiden
This years’ annual Southeast Asia Update will be co-hosted by the Van
Vollenhoven Instituut, the Institute for Cultural Anthropology of
Leiden University, and the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies
(LIAS). Get a quick fix of what is the newest of the new when it comes to research on this exciting world region.
•Get an overview of on-going debates and recent research.
•Take the chance to present recent project findings or a new book.
•Listen to others, who are dealing with issues relating to Southeast Asia
from new and unfamiliar perspectives.
•Meet old friends and make new ones.
•Extend your network of Southeast Asian scholars in the Netherlands.
Throughout the Netherlands, established and beginning scholars alike
are involved in a broad range of research projects and disciplines dealing
with Southeast Asia. Whereas those working on similar subjects or nations
tend to know one another to a greater or lesser extent, a comparative approach
to the region is often less well developed. At the same time the presence of
numerous scholars from the region itself in Dutch academia is changing the
research agenda. It is our purpose to both monitor and stimulate such
developments in our annual gathering of Southeast Asia scholars.
We are now putting together a program of new and ongoing research
projects, book presentations, and poster presentations, and we also hope to
allocate plenty of time for discussion and informal get-togethers.
We invite speakers of all levels (PhD, post-doc or senior researchers)
to present new research in all stages on any part of Southeast Asia at the Third
Southeast Asian Update in the Netherlands.
We particularly welcome presentations on comparative research, either
between mainland and peninsular Southeast Asia, between two countries within
SEA, or with countries outside the Southeast Asian region.
If you would like to give a presentation on recent fieldwork results,
present a poster on your research project, or introduce a new book you are
kindly requested to submit the title and a short abstract of your
presentation to the organisers before 16 May 2011. The presentations plus discussion will be maximally 15 minutes.
If you would like to attend the SEA Update, please send an email to
Yayah Siegers (mailto:[log in to unmask], 071 5272295), for registration.
Hoping to hear from you soon,
