I don't have direct experience of using studs but anecdotally they can
become slippery when wet or with wear.  But regardless of this it is not
easily possible to provide colour and tonal contrast with the
surrounding paving unless the paving is painted or replaced with a
different colour somewhat defeating the point of using studs in the
first place.  If studs are used and an appropriate level of colour and
contrast can be achieved, the profile of the stud must match that given
in the DETR Guidance on the use of Tactile Paving Surfaces.

Does anybody have any experience of the use of the various metal and
plastic retro fit tactile studs (blister and corduroy)? Are there any
perceived benefits in using studs rather than a tactile tile? Any
