CSIP Archives Project Assistant

£23,000 per annum plus benefits
Closing date: 26 April 2011

The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.
The Archives project, to build a new store for the Museum’s archival collection, is part of the Collections Storage Infrastructure Programme (CSIP) which aims to improve the quality of collections storage across the Museum.
The Museum Archives and Records Management team are looking to recruit a Project Assistant to help prepare for and successfully complete the move of the collection into the new store.
You will be responsible for ensuring all items are identified, databased and packed to maximise space, and will assist with relocation planning for the new store. On completion of the move you will undertake an audit of the relocated archives material and create a new location list.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the manual handling of archival/special collections material, and, preferably, some experience of cataloguing archives.
A methodical approach and strong attention to detail is also essential for this post.
