This is a brief announcement that Peter Lewis died on Friday 8th April in
Boston. Peter was a frequent visitor to the UK statistical community
during the 60´s - 90´s, but for the last 10 years he suffered progressively
from Parkinson´s Disease. He was a member of the Royal Statistical
Society, published several papers in RSS journals, including two read
papers, over a 100 papers in all, and co-authored a monograph on
statistical analysis of series of events with David Cox and one on
simulation with John Orav. During his professional life, Peter worked at
IBM Research in San Jose and Yorktown Heights and at the Naval
Postgraduate School in Monterey. He will be remembered for contributing to
the theory and application of statistical methodology for point processes,
for non-Gaussian/non-linear time series modelling, for simulation
methodology, and as an early proponent of statistical computing.
