Postdoctoral Research Associate
Data-management and analysis for MUSE/VLT
Leiden Observatory invites applications for a post-doctoral research
position within the Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) project.
MUSE is an adaptive-optics assisted integral-field spectrograph for the
VLT with first light scheduled for end-2012.
The successful applicant will be expected to help build the
data-management system for MUSE, in collaboration with the MUSE
consortium and AstroWISE in Groningen. This will involve extended
visits to Groningen and several MUSE nodes in the first year. He/she is
also expected to help with commissioning of MUSE, due to commence in
early 2013, to attend science team meetings, and help prepare, process,
and analyze Guarantee Time Observations observations.
The appointment will be for two years initially, but will be renewed for
a third year in case of satisfactory performance. The position comes
with a competitive salary and full benefits.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by the starting date.
Experience with observational astronomy and/or astronomical
instrumentation is required and experience with data processing
pipelines is strongly desired. Experience with an object-orientated
programming language and/or database development would be an advantage.
Please submit applications electronically at
http://jobs.strw.leidenuniv.nl/2011/MusePostDoc/ by June 10, 2011. We
require contacts of three referees, cover letter, curriculum vitae,
publication list and statement of research experience and interests. The
application review process will begin June 10, 2011 and will continue
until the position has been filled.
