University Professor of Astrophysics

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for a Professor of
Astrophysics with focus on observation/experiment at the Institute of
Astro- and Particle Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer
Science and Physics.
The Institute for Astro- and Particle Physics is a rapidly expanding
institute with groups working in extragalactic and galactic astrophysics
and in astroparticle physics.
This position of Full Professor was established with Austria's recent
accession to ESO. Scientific excellence without preference for a specific
field of research is emphasized.
Responsibilities include:
Establishing an outstanding research program in observational and/or
experimental astrophysics and/or instrument building, with particular
emphasis on using ESO facilities. Potential topics comprise the full range
of astrophysical research including the leadership of observational
programs on ground based facilities or the development of advanced
instrumentation.
Co-operations within the Institute and interdisciplinary collaborations
with other research groups at the University of Innsbruck (e.g.
mathematics, computer science, plasma physics, quantum optics, laboratory
experiments of interstellar matter) are welcome.
Teaching in English or German.
