Understanding Origins at the Open University (UO@OU)
The Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute (PSSRI) at the Open
University in Milton Keynes has several Ph.D. studentships available for
October 2011. Studentships are funded by the Science and Technology
Facilities Council (STFC), and are a minimum of GBP 13,500 p.a. for 3
years. We are looking for geologists, geochemists, chemists and
planetary scientists who enjoy laboratory-based research, and who are
interested in trying to understand the origin and evolution of the
Solar System and how this led to the origin of life on Earth (and
maybe elsewhere?).
Available projects concern investigations of:
Comets and cometary grains
Organic chemistry and mineral interactions in the early Solar System
Hydrothermal activity on Mars
The potential habitability of Mars by microbial colonies
