Elegy Def
A good elegy works best in both directions.
At night I hear trees falling on both sides.
I wake up on a beach at 5 in the morning.
Cold in small group. Fortunately I still have
strong socks and boots on my feet.
We are all sitting in cold, wet, beige colored sand.
The elderly woman across from me has no boots.
Her darkening feet are frozen.
We are told she will be dead by the break of dawn.
I am torn between cloth and the inevitability of flesh.
I wake. Someone close says the obvious.
