British and Irish Sound Archives (BISA) event - Glasgow 20-21 May 2011
BISA (a regional member of the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives) has a full and fascinating programme lined up for its annual meeting, which will be held at BBC Scotland's Information and Archives Department at BBC Scotland, Pacific Quay, Glasgow on 20-21 May 2011. The event also offers a great chance to meet peers, share experiences and generally catch up.
On Friday 20 May we have the following speakers.
Ted Kendall, freelance engineer, talking about the challenges of re-mastering vintage broadcast comedy.
Mike Hirst, freelance audio specialist talking about Command Line Cataloguing using BWFmetaEdit. Developed by the Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative (FADGI), BWFmetaEdit is arguably the most useful small tool to be made available to the audio archive community in recent years.
Emily Roff will talk about a project celebrating the School of Scottish Studies' 60th anniversary, during which three contemporary Scottish musicians have been commissioned to create new work based on a residency in the Sound Archive.
Delaina Sepko, postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow, will talk about the interaction of music, technology and preservation and the resulting affect on authenticity, context and social constructions of knowledge.
Iain Wallace of Glasgow Caledonian University will talk about providing open access to multi-media resources, including twentieth century audiovisual archive treasures, to an international educational audience.
Alice Measom, will talk about her work as archivist at the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
Plus we'll have speakers from the BBC Scotland's Information and Archives Department discussing their current issues and playing for us some of the gems from their collections.
For those staying on, on Saturday morning we'll have an hour's workshop on a technical aspect of audiovisual archives (exact details to be confirmed) followed by a tour of BBC Scotland's award-winning headquarters at Pacific Quay.

Please note that there will be a registration fee for the meeting of £15 for BISA members or £25 for non-members. The registration fee should not be sent with the registration form, but will be collected on the day.
