UKeiG Annual Seminar - Smarter content with the semantic web: Is your
organisation ready?
Wednesday, 15 June, 2011 ... 10:00 - 17:00
Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, Piccadilly, W1J 0BA,
London
The UKeiG Annual Seminar 2011 will explore the semantic web, its
relationships to users and machines, and the differences it might make
to our working lives and those of our customers. The semantic web
promises to enable smarter searching, processing, integrating and
presenting of content. But will it, and how? More importantly, what
should you be doing about it within your organisation? The seminar will
consider the issues, the possibilities and the barriers emerging from
the semantic web.
By providing a mix of presentations and case studies, delegates will be
able to understand the relevance of the semantic web for their
organisation, the technologies and applications they could be exploring
to enhance content, and other practical steps that should betaken to
ensure their resources and entities are connected.
Speakers include: John Darlington (University of Southampton), John
Goodwin (Ordnance Survey), Tim Hodson (Talis Systems Ltd), Owen Stephens
(consultant, recently working on the TelStar project at the Open
University), Victoria Uren (Senior Research Fellow, with a particular
interest in structured knowledge) and Neil Wilson (The British Library).
The day will also include the Annual General Meeting of UKeiG beginning
at 09:15. Members of UKeiG may attend the AGM, which usually lasts about
30 minutes, free of charge, but if they wish to stay for the Annual
Seminar they must book a place in advance.
