Dear Craig, Kate, Fay and Anna (and all other unemployed archivist),
I would like to start by sending you all my sincere sympathy and concern. I realise that for the individuals involved in this it is extremely disheartening, and you may feel let down by expectations raised by a previous golden age.
However I would like to make the point that from the profession's point of view and for employers having a broader range of candidates is a positive aspect of the growing knowledge of the profession. This does make the job market more difficult and competitive.
Do remember that each employer will be looking for a slightly different mix of skills and these are not always obvious from the job descriptions as they relate to how you will fit into their team. This means that with exactly the same experience and knowledge base one candidate will fit better in that team at that time.
I do wish you good luck with your future employment options wherever they may be, and hope that you find the right team to fit into.
Kind regards
Rebecca Shorter
