Mathematics and the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute
University of Southampton, UK
£34,745 to £44,016 (GBP) per annum
Closing date: 20 May 2011 at 12.00 noon (BST)
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding statistician with an excellent track record of research and the potential for research leadership in an area which will enhance and extend the current interests of the Statistics group in the Academic Unit of Mathematics and in the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI). Preference will be given to an individual with a record of excellent research in design and analysis of experiments, though outstanding candidates in other areas of statistics will be considered.
The position arises as a result of an increased requirement for Statistics courses in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, and the appointee will be expected to play a major role in developing and delivering this programme. In order to allow the appointee to develop his or her research profile, the overall teaching load will be relatively light.
Duties, as determined by the Head of Academic Unit, will include: conducting research of international status in statistics and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate statistics. As part of the role you will also be expected to support effective management and administration of the Unit.
The position is available from 1 September 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a 3 year fixed term period.
