The Equality Service includes one of the largest and most specialised Disability Teams within Higher Education. We work directly with around 1800 students to coordinate and provide high-quality academic support. The Disability Team currently manage four support worker teams through four staff members; note takers, personal assistants, strategy tutors and specialist mentors. This newly-created role will sit alongside the Disability Team and will initially focus on reviewing this service provision for disabled students with a view to developing a new integrated and harmonised service. This will allow us to provide optimum service provision to existing users, and to reach out to potential users. It is an exciting opportunity to join the Equality Service management team in leading on substantial organisational change within the Equality Service, and to contribute fully to our strategy and vision. Moving on from the initial changes, it is an opportunity to develop further the service provision we offer disabled people through innovative and creative initiatives, and to embed excellent disability-related services at a University-wide level.
In addition, the post will involve providing line-management of 2 Disability Assistants and c80 Support Workers, as well as working directly with disabled students on issues relating to the management of their support.
To ensure that the Service is representative of the wider community, the University would particularly welcome applications from male, black or minority ethnic (BME) and disabled candidates.
