Yes, Chris, I noticed something similar the other year after a performance
of Messiaen's *'**La **Nativité* *du Seigneu*r' in Peterborough Cathedral.
All recordings failed to please thereafter: I realised that a mediaeval
Gothic cathedral was an absolute essential to any rendition of the piece.
Unfortunately, these tend to be a) not noted for portability b) out of
proportion to any room in my flat (as well as impossible to fit in the lift)
and c) rarely on sale in the local market or charity shops.
