Diagramming And Spatial Hypertext Software (DASHS) Workshop
June 6, 2011 - Eindhoven, Netherlands (to precede ACM Hypertext 2011)
Are you a visual thinker?
Do you document decisions and organise project information by drawing maps or diagrams on the computer? Are you keen to share this method and learn from others with similar interests?
We cordially invite submissions for short talks and demos from researchers, software developers and professionals in industry who have developed concept mapping methods or tools (also mind maps, dialogue maps, spatial hypertext, diagrams, etc...) to augment everyday work. We are specifically looking for methods that:
* serve as “living” documents to help users make sense of complex, evolving information (mapping decisions, collecting or organising evidence, teaching or reference info in a visual space);
* use novel strategies to take advantage of visio-spatial thinking such as novel symbols, flows of boxes & arrows or even just strategies for layout of text in space;
* leverage standard “office” software in innovative ways or use new software developed in-house that can be shared with a broader community.
Successful authors will present a 5 minute “elevator” pitch on the day followed by a break-out session where they will get to take interested participants through 30 minutes of additional presentation or hands-on exercises. They are also encouraged to participate in other's presentations to build on each other's techniques. The workshop is designed to adapt to interests on the day and to maximize the flow of ideas.
Authors working in research and software development are also invited to attend the afternoon session where we will go into more detailed discussions on key requirements and finding development funding.
Proposals should be two-page summaries (with figures and references where applicable) that cover the content of a 5 minute “elevator pitch” and include instructive visuals showing key points of the the developed methods or tools.
