Dear Malcolm,

I know this isn't precisely what you're after, but it is worth mentioning that we recently re-launched the Collections Trust Software Survey with a significantly enhanced set of information about the SPECTRUM Partner systems, including links to demo and exemplar installations as well as an extended set of information about their capabilities in areas such as interoperability and extensibility.

The information is freely available on Collections Link at http://www.collectionslink.org.uk (search on the phrase 'software survey' to see them all, or 'Collections Management Systems' for an overview chart comparing the various features).

We're really hoping that people will add to these product descriptions their own case studies and comments on the systems, so if people do have examples to share, it'd be great if they could post them there.

There's also a day of product demonstrations of the SPECTRUM Partner systems at our OpenCulture conference & trade fair on the 7th June, so if you wanted to talk to a lot of system vendors in one place, that'd be a good way to do it!

All best,

Nick

Subject: Hunterian collections system project

Dear All,

The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery is looking to replace its current collections management system, INCA. The backend software and table structure has not changed very much since 1993 (!!), although it has proved capable of supporting online collections access (http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk), OAI-PMH etc.

Obviously technology has moved on since then, so we are interested in looking widely at practices and developments across the sector which offer new approaches to collections management, data access and engagement. At this stage we don't want to limit ourselves to simply looking at what systems are out there, but at how museums (and libraries and archives) use collections systems in innovative ways to improve access to and use of the collections themselves. So, if you have, or know of any particularly exciting examples of such usage, please contact on or off-list.
