Dear All,
In response to yesterday evening's flurry of messages: this list is
intended for discussions as well as announcements, so it's quite
appropriate for the REF debate to continue here. If you want to leave
the list, please don't mail all subscribers, but just send the message
"leave german-studies" to <[log in to unmask]> and it will happen
automatically. There are several other options available to you,
though, if there happens to be a lot of traffic on a particular issue
that doesn't interest you:
- you can use your e-mail program to set up a local filter for messages
from the list so that they don't clog up your inbox.
- you can sign up to the list's digest so that you receive only one
message each day (shortly after midnight, UK time) containing all the
day's posts. To set this up, mail <[log in to unmask]> saying
"set german-studies digest" (and "set german-studies nodigest" to
receive messages normally again).
- short of actually leaving the list, you can change your personal
settings so that temporarily you receive no messages from the list.
Mail <[log in to unmask]> saying "set german-studies nomail" (and
"set german-studies mail" to start receiving mails again). This can
also be a good option if you're going to be away from your computer for
a while. Even when you're not receiving mails directly you can always
review messages sent to the list by checking the public web archive
here: <http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/german-studies>.
Best wishes,
Duncan Large
(List owner)
