The two people who chose the name claimed never to have heard of Ian Rankine's detective before they decided. It must have lurked subconsciously though because I gave one of them a Rebus novel a couple of years ago when I finished it at CERN, to reduce my hand baggage. They later claimed to have enjoyed it, which I took to imply they had read it:-)
