This is really interesting Mico.
It might be good to widen it a bit and ask if science articles have been "spiked" because they did not report "facts" that coincide with public expectations or desires.
For example, is it hard to get an article published that questions some environmental group's arguments about conservation?
Also, I have seen popular articles on the discovery of "gay genes" and other work that may suggest than some people are "born gay" but, not reporting the evidence suggesting an environmental explanation is more probable.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] When science reporting clashes with adverts
Dear All,
Does anyone know of other examples of possible clashes between science articles/reporting and advertising in magazines/newspapers, such as this one reported about the Newsweek's Lipitor ad<http://ksjtracker.mit.edu/2011/01/24/ny-observer-sharon-begley-story-on-statins-said-to-be-held-because-of-lipitor-ad/>:

http://www.observer.com/2011/media/ads-trump-articles-newsweek-limps-tina-territory <http://www.observer.com/2011/media/ads-trump-articles-newsweek-limps-tina-territory>
I've been trying to find more information about this, but haven't got far.
I'd also be interested in any academic work on this issue.
Thanks,
Mico
