Hi Helen - thanks for your question and your interest.
There's not a guide to hacking with OER that I know of (but being an
OER-head and not a hacker I'd love to read one!). A more general
introduction to OER is the (excellent) OER InfoKit:

With the hackday, the focus is on building stuff that may be of use to
people out there working with OER. If there's a tool you wish you had -
now is the time to post the idea to the list.
We'll be feeding back after the event, hopefully with some interesting
stuff for you to play with.
