Hi Lesley,
CRB checks are done for anyone who may come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. I work in a large college so clearly I need to do this every year. In OH you can never be certain what type of environment you may be going into so the agencies are, in my opinion, doing everything they can to protect both the staff on their books and potential client companies by insisting on CRB checks. Perhaps someone from a recruitment agency would be better placed to answer this? We have list members who work for agencies so hopefully you will have some input from them.
Good luck in your job search!
Kind regards,
Rita

Subject: CRB in OH
Hi there
I am new to the list and am qualified in OH and a few years experience.
Due to redundancy I am just starting to register with a lot of agencies as looking for work in occhealth but have a query and wondered if you could offer guidance. Is it standard for agencies to request a CRB check when registering with them for agency work?
So far I am in the process of registering with two agencies, one of whom does not require a CRB to be undertaken, but the second agency are requesting CRB check as it is standard practice (the fee to be paid by myself)
I am not looking to work in NHS etc so is a CRB actually necessary for occ health practitioners working through an agency? What is everyone elses experience?
Thanks for your help
Lesley
