medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all,
I am looking for precedents for an image of Christ enthroned in a
mandorla, with the inscription
IX [Christ’s head] θυς
(in case that gets garbled in transmission, it should be ICHTHUS in
Greek letters, some Uncial).
The image otherwise appears to be from the early eleventh century.
(Sorry I can't post a photo-- it's in a private collection and the owner
prefers that I do not.)
Does anyone know of medieval images that combine the explicit
representation of Christ in Majesty with the IXθυς?
All references will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Genevra
