I'd love to hear from anyone that has a (procurement) specification for a
'discovery service/vertical search' system that they'd be prepared to share
with the wider community. It would be helpful to update and enrich the open
system specification already on the LibTechRFP website/wiki
https://libtechrfp.wikispaces.com/ (which also has the UK Core Specification
(UKCS) for Library Management Systems freely available)
Many academic libraries and some public libraries have purchased and
implemented vertical search/discovery service products such as Aquabrowser,
Summon, Encore, Primo., WorldCat Local or some of the open source solutions
like VuFind. HE libraries using these products are listed on SCONUL's
HELibTech website http://helibtech.com/HE+Systems+Review which also lists
recent procurements. http://helibtech.com/Procurements . I know others,
including public libraries, are intending to purchase such systems. It would
be useful to share specifications to help make the procurement process
easier and less expensive.
If anyone *is* thinking about purchasing such a system there are links to a
couple of very useful recent articles exploring a range of issues including
evaluation and implementation

The open specification can be found at

(and many thanks to the university library that supplied this initial draft)
