PETROLEUM GEOSCIENTIST VACANCY
The British Geological Survey (BGS), founded in 1835 is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), and is the world's longest-established national geological survey and the UKs premier centre for earth science information and expertise. A vacancy has arisen for a Petroleum Geoscientist based at our office in Edinburgh.
You will undertake a vibrant mix of both scientific and commercial research into the petroleum geology and basin analysis of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) and other international areas. You will form part of a team who contribute to high-profile commercial projects (e.g. for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Falkland Islands Government).
You should be educated to degree level (2:1 or above) in geosciences / geology or geophysics and have a knowledge and understanding of the hydrocarbon exploration-related techniques used in basin analysis. An MSc or PhD in geoscience, geology or geophysics, with a focus on petroleum or basin analysis-related work would be desirable. In addition you must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The post involves team working, therefore you should be able to work effectively with others and have good time management skills. Starting salary will be between £19,450 per annum and £29,410 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks.
