We're seeing occasions (only from the student view - from the staff member's view everything looks fine) where the students are receiving the wrong marks/feedback for a question. The marks/comments they receive are their own marks/comments, they're just from another question. For example, question 1 has 2 points possible. Student A views their stuff and sees they've been given 4 marks out of 2 and some completely irrelevant feedback. The member of staff checks this out and it appears fine from their view.

So far we're not sure what causes this or how to replicate it.

Subject: Self and peer assessment tool

Several of our academic colleagues are interested in setting up peer
assessment activities for their students, and one of the ways they have
done this is using the Self and peer assessment tool. Recently I have
been reviewing technical issues in 9.0 (mostly already known to BB) that
colleagues have experienced, and have come up with a few tips which I
thought others wanting to use the tool might be interested in:

1. Staff may not be able to batch download results or evaluations from
the SAP option in Course Tools (AS-145359)(although there is a
workaround that involves copying and pasting data from the SAP into
Excel, which allows staff to see a breakdown of students' marks )

2. When students are inputting data at the submission stage it is
preferable for them to write text in Notepad (NOT WORD - AS-157817),
save and then copy directly into the SAP onscreen forms. Attached files
are to be avoided if possible, but if they have to attach files, they
should use Firefox throughout the process. (AS-146639)

3. When setting up the assessment staff MUST add points for criteria
(even if these are not used). So for example make criteria out of 1 and
then ask the students to enter 1 when they have added their peer review
comments. (AS-131140)

4. SAP cannot be used with Groups - all students in a course are
automatically included in the process. (AS-155571 and AS-155708)

5. Students who do not submit are still included in the evaluation
stage which means that some students will receive one or more null
submissions to review.

Some of these issues are down to be addressed in later releases but not
all. We find the idea of the Self and peer assessment tool fantastically
powerful, but in practice with so many bugs and limitations it can be
hard to support and promote to academic colleagues.

I'd be interested in other users' opinions about this.

Best wishes

Roger
