JOB TITLE: Project Archivist - Derby papers
GRADE: Scale 5
PAY RANGE: £19,621 - £21,519 p.a. pro rata for fixed term of 20.5 months
LOCATION: Liverpool Record Office, Wellington Employment Park
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To catalogue and promote access to the papers of the Earls of Derby
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR: Library assistant
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
•To catalogue the papers of the 13th, 14th and 15th Earls of Derby to meet recognised archival standards using the archival computer system (CALM) so as to provide a comprehensive multi-level description catalogue on-line for free text searching.
•To supervise, motivate and train a library assistant who will assist with the project.
•To liaise with the Conservator over conservation and preservation requirements and to assist with re-packaging and numbering.
•To market and promote the collection to a wide audience including the production of a leaflet, drafting of press releases, effective use of relevant on-line forums and groups, and liaison with relevant organisations and partners.
•To respond effectively to enquiries about the collection.
•To ensure effective communication within the section and with other service areas.
•To liaise with appropriate staff through the Libraries & Information Services and to raise staff awareness through the provision of staff guidance and training.
•To liaise with other City Council staff and outside agencies and partners as necessary and appropriate.
•To assist with ensuring the control and security of the archives including involvement in disaster prevention, planning and recovery processes.
•To work within City Council policies, employment and Health & Safety legislation.
•To undertake such other duties as are reasonably commensurate with the level of this post.
