Dear All
Genesis www.genesis.ac.uk was relaunched at the UK Archive Discovery
Network's Conference this Wednesday. -by the way it was a fantastic
conference Look at twitter #ukad for updates from the day and links to
the talks. Look at www.ukad.org for updates about UKAD-
Genesis is a resource for mapping women's history resources in archives
libraries and museums across the British Isles. It was first launched
in 2002.
The relaunch is an exciting collaboration with the Archives Hub. Rather
than maintaining a dataset here at The Women's Library we are pointing
our Genesis website at the Hub data and retrieving it from there. This
means our partners have gone from 46 to 180 overnight.
* I am currently working through each of the 46 original partners to
email you all with an update of what this means for your records
* I also have similar updates to send existing Hub contributors. The
Hub and I did a lot of indexing of collection level descriptions in
preparation for the launch. I have lists of which collections were
indexed which I will be sending out.
If you have not received an email from me yet please be patient - I'm
doing this in between the rain drops of my day job! If you are
interested and want to contact me, please do so. I have guidance notes
for indexing which will be very useful for partners in the future.
For any one else interested in the project please await further details
- I'll post up instructions for those interested in the project soon. I
hope to complete this interim stage by summer 2011.
Also I am talking about the project again on 17th March 2.00, here at
The Women's Library for the AIM25 meeting. Contact Anna Towlson if you
want to attend [log in to unmask]
This is a fantastic example of a collaborative project by archivists,
reusing data, and improving links between existing partners. It is also
a relatively low cost way of delivering a subject specialist resource to
users. We'll be doing some more publicity about this over the coming
months.
I'd also like to personally thanks everyone at the Archives Hub, AIM25
and UKAD, as well as my LondonMet ICT team for making this possible -
it's been 2 years in the making but I think it's been worth it
Best wishes
Teresa
