The Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford, supported by the Eccles Centre for American Studies at the British Library and the International Association of Political Consultants, is hosting a conference in Oxford on The Impact of US Political Marketing Styles on Democracy (14-15 March 2011).
The proliferation of American-style political marketing in democracies around the world is undeniable. But is it inevitable or, indeed, desirable? This two day conference brings together leading academics and political practitioners to explore:
* The impact of US political marketing internationally
* Whether democracy can adapt to new modes of political marketing
* Data privacy in an era of data mining
Confirmed speakers include Clinton campaign consultant Rick Ridder; John Aristotle Phillips (pioneer in the strategic applications of technology to politics and political communication); Dennis W Johnson (author "Handbook of Political Management"); Bruce Newman (Editor-in-Chief of the "Journal of Political Marketing").
There will be case studies on the impact of U.S. political marketing styles with consultants Richard Murphy on UK 2010; Richard Dresner on Yeltsin 1996; and Dahlia Scheindlin on Israel.
Colleagues and students are warmly invited to register as day delegates for this two day conference.
