Two PDRA positions are available on an EPSRC funded project ³LETS: Locally
Stationary Energy Time Series². One appointment will be employed at
Lancaster Universityıs Department of Mathematics and Statistics, while the
other will be employed at the University of Bristolıs Department of
Mathematics. Both positions are funded for 3 years, with a start date of 1
June 2011, or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment will be on Grade 7
(Lancaster) and Grade I (Bristol) respectively.
The LETS project will develop a body of research in the area of locally
stationary (LS) time series modelling, motivated by applications arising
from the energy sector and embed this into the sector and beyond. LETS is a
cross-institutional initiative between the Statistics Groups at the
Universities of Lancaster and Bristol led by Idris Eckley (Lancaster) and
Guy Nason (Bristol). In particular the project will develop novel
statistical methods in response to scientific problems in the energy arena
and problems identified by energy partners (EDF Energy (Paris), Garrad
Hassan, Nuon Renewables and Shell). LETS is primarily and jointly funded by
the EPSRC Mathematics and RCUK Energy Programmes, and also by the
Universities and the energy partners.
Throughout the programme there will be opportunities to engage and
collaborate with researchers based at both academic groups and the various
industrial partners.
Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics or
related discipline, with research experience in stochastic processes and/or
computational statistical methods. Good R programming skills and
demonstrable ability to produce academic writing of a publishable standard
are essential.
Please note that the application process for this post is being administered
by Lancaster University on behalf of both universities. If you are applying
for a position at a specific location please mark this clearly on your
application. Otherwise we will assume that you are willing to be considered
for a position at either Bristol or Lancaster.
