There are many disciplines that work with sound. Each has developed its own
set of methodologies over the years, often developing quickly with rapid
advances in technology. The aim of this workshop is to bring together
Oxford researchers who work on sound from different theoretical and

The 2nd Nordic Conference of Clinical Linguistics will be hosted by the
Research Group in Clinical Linguistics and Language Acquisition at the

International Seminar on Speech Production 2011
We are pleased to announce that the the ninth International Seminar on
Speech Production (ISSP'11) will be held in Montreal, Canada from June 20th
to 23rd, 2011. ISSP'11 is the continuation of a series of seminars dating
back to Grenoble (1988), Leeds (1990), Old Saybrook (1993), Autrans (1996),
Kloster Seeon (2000), Sydney (2003), Ubatuba (2006), and Strasbourg (2008).
Several aspects of speech production will be covered, such as phonology,
phonetics, linguistics, mechanics, acoustics, physiology, motor control,
neurosciences and computer science.
For this edition, a special session will be organized in honor of Dr.
Joseph Perkell, for his contribution to the field.

Resident Academic Full Time Posts in Human Language Technology
at the Institute of Linguistics, University of Malta
Applications are invited for two full-time Resident Academic posts in the
Institute of Linguistics of the University of Malta. This post is for an
initial period of three years with the possibility of renewal subject to
the needs of the University and subject to a one-year probationary period.
The posts are being issued as part of an ongoing effort by the Institute of
Linguistics to establish a strong research and teaching base in
Computational Linguistics and Cognitive Science, and are linked to the
development of a new degree programme in Human Language Technology which
spans all areas of computational linguistics and related disciplines,
including experimental psycholinguistics and formal grammar.
The appointee will be required to contribute to the teaching, research and
administration of the Institute of Linguistics, and as may be required by
the University. The appointees will be required to start by September 2011.
The ideal candidates must be in possession of a Ph.D. or equivalent
research based doctorate in Computational Linguistics, Cognitive Science or
a related discipline, and have a demonstrable commitment to research.
Teaching experience at tertiary level will be considered an asset. The
appointees will be required to teach courses at all levels to students
within the Institute of Linguistics and to students in other courses that
require servicing by the Institute of Linguistics, and to contribute
substantially to the development of the Institute research programmes.
Other essential qualifications are good communicative skills, the ability
to work in a team, and experience in the teaching of one or more areas of
Computational Linguistics and/or Cognitive Science. Preference will be
given to applicants who are specialists in one or more of the following
areas: Experimental Psycholinguistics, Natural Language Processing,
Artificial Intelligence, Corpus Linguistics.
The Resident Academic Stream is compos ed of four grades, being Professor,
Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer and Lecturer. Entry into the grade of
Lecturer or above shall only be open to persons in possession of a Ph.D. or
an equivalent research based doctorate within strict guidelines established
by the University. The annual salary for 2011 attached to the respective
grades in the Resident Academic Stream is as follows:
Professor €36,308 plus Academic Supplement of €15,634 and a Professorial

The University of Toronto academic health science complex is among the
largest in North America. The Faculty of Medicine

generate in excess of $700 million dollars per annum in competitive
external research funds. The University has offered specialized preparation
for professional practice in speech-language pathology since 1958. The
Department of Speech-Language Pathology, within the Rehabilitation Sciences
Sector of the Faculty of Medicine, currently offers a professional graduate
degree program (Master of Health Science) with an enrollment of 90 students
and two research degree programs (Master of Science and Doctor of
Philosophy). The Rehabilitation Sciences Sector consists of four
departments: Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy; Physical

12-month job offer in Lyon 2 University, France.
Applications are invited for a 12-month full-time Postdoctoral Position in
experimental phonetics, psycholinguistics and neuroscience in Lyon, France.
The post-doc is part of an exciting new project (funded by the Agence
Nationale de la Recherche) whose aim is to explore the behavioural and
electrophysiological correlates of 'atypical' phonemic contrasts (derived
contrasts, contrasts restricted to a certain type of lexicon, etc.) in an
attempt to provide strong empirical arguments of potential interest to
phonologists and linguists. The successful applicant will have a PhD in
experimental phonetics - withstrong emphasis on experiments - or a PhD in
cognitive sciences/neuroscience -with particular focus on the perception
and representation of speech sounds. Among other things, the post involves
travelling to English-speaking countries(Scotland and Ireland) to carry out
behavioural experiments and recordings;native speakers of English are
therefore very welcome to apply. Workingknowledge of French will be
considered an asset. Given that a substantial partof the project has to do
with EEG, the successful candidate is expected to befamiliar with this

The Institute of Anthropology, Archaeology and Linguistics of Aarhus
University seeks an Assistant Professor of Linguistics (in Danish Adjunkt)
to begin on 1 August 2011. The appointment is for three years; thereafter
it is possible to apply for a tenured associate professorship in open
competition.
The candidate should have a PhD or its equivalent in linguistics as well as
teaching experience and the expertise and experience to develop research
projects at university level within the area of specialisation.
The department is particularly interested in candidates with an expertise
in neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics and/or some closely related
discipline, who are also prepared to teach in at least two of the following
areas: phonetics & phonology, morphosyntax, sociolinguistics, language
acquisition. Expertise in at least one (other) area of applied linguistics,
empirical methods and/or statistics would be advantageous. The selected
candidate will be expected to support and contribute to teaching, research,
and innovative curriculum development in graduate and undergraduate

The IVAr project will create a corpus of Arabic speech recordings in which
speakers record a parallel set of sentences, stories and conversations. A
basic dataset will be collected with 18-24 year olds in five regions of the
Arab world, and in two of these regions an in-depth survey will collect
additional data with older speakers (50+) and in neighbouring cities.
Prosodic transcription of the intonation patterns observed in the corpus
will provide the basis for publication of descriptions of the typical
intonation patterns in individual dialects, and comparisons among them.
You will conduct fieldwork, undertake both quantitative auditory/acoustic
phonetic and qualitative data analysis (to include prosodic transcription
in the Autosegmental- Metrical framework), and participate in the
dissemination of findings. You will hold or will have submitted (prior to
commencement of employment) a PhD in phonetics and/or phonology and you
will be a native or near-native speaker of Arabic. Previous experience of
fieldwork and/or prosodic transcription is also advantageous. Relevant
training will be provided where necessary. Excellent IT proficiency and
time management skills are required.
The starting salary will be £28,893 per annum (GBP). The post is available
on a fixed term basis for up to 36 months.

The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer or
Assistant Professor in an area oriented towards experimental linguistics.
Desirable expertise includes experimental design, statistics, and
quantitative analysis, ideally coupled with teaching experience and/or
research interests in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. The area of
specialization is open as long as the candidate’s research is conducted
based on experimental work, dealing with theoretical issues of any
subfield(s) of linguistics.
The successful candidate will contribute to shaping the department’s new
undergraduate track in theoretical and applied linguistics. The candidate
will also get involved with the post-graduate programs offered in the
department. Elective courses to be taught depend on the candidate’s area of
specialization.
For all academic ranks, an earned doctorate from a recognized university is
required. According to the Law of the University of Cyprus, all candidates
must have successfully completed their Ph.D. degree by the date of
application.
Requirements for each academic rank depend on the candidate's years of
academic experience, the research record and scientific contributions,
involvement in teaching and in the development of high quality
