If any courageous readers of this list would like to help out with the
debugging of my Ubuntu package of Coot, please read on.
The Coot package for Ubuntu is based exclusively on crystallography
packages that are already available in Ubuntu, such as gpp4, mmdb,
ssm, clipper, plus of course all the GTK and Python packages. Speaking
of which, this package is built with Python support only, Guile is not
activated.
One dependent package is not in Ubuntu's official repo, namely the
refmac dictionary; however this package will be pulled in from the PPA.
The packages are available from my PPA at launchpad.net [0]. Currently
only for distributions 10.04 LTS (Lucid) and 10.10 (Maverick). Please
note, my local machine currently runs Lucid, and I have not debugged
the Maverick packages at all.
The packages contain the bleeding edge version 0.7-pre-1 from the
Subversion repository at Google Code. Therefore, the usual disclaimers
apply, since this is _not_ the stable production version of Coot.
To install the coot package on your system, you first need to install
the public key for my PPA. Save the attached file "ppa-mok0.key"
locally, and do this:
sudo apt-key add ppa-mok0.key
Next, add my PPA repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mok0/ppa
That's it! Now, you should be able to:
apt-get update && apt-get install coot
