Dear all,
I am involved in a couple of projects to support statistical teaching and numeracy in geography.
I am attaching a short "Guide to statistics" booklet that is available for free at http://msor.rsscse.org.uk/leaflets/. The reason for sending is that I will be helping to produce a similar booklet for geography. It would be useful to have your feedback on what you believe the contents should be - what is essential material for an undergraduate student in geography and related disciplines. The idea of the booklet is not to be a comprehensive text but something of an short introduction / aide memoire that students can refer during their classes and also be able to take to a job interview to show what they've learned. Comments to [log in to unmask] are very welcome.
I am also looking to gauge interest in a teaching statistics / enhancing numeracy in geography session or workshop at the RGS-IBG annual conference. If you'd be interested in participating in such event, please let me know.
Two other things you may also be interested in.
First, the DeSTRESS (!) project. This is a project to share and create resources to promote statistical literacy in four disciplines: Economics, Geography, Politics and Sociology. The geography site will be developed soon. Please see http://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/projects/destress
Finally, a gratuitous plug for a new textbok: Statistics in Geography and Environmental Science. Pre-order now at http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=geography+environmental+statistics&x=0&y=0 :-)
Many thanks,
Rich Harris
