Hi Jackie,
You haven't said what the employee's role is or the environmental considerations to his role.
Does he work in a dusty environment? If so is the LEV working etc?
Could his sinusitis be work related? If so what is the potential cause? And is it rhinitis?
Have you got previous records for him?
If the above is not applicable and he is getting recurrent sinus infections then a conversation regarding how one can get run down and boosting his immune system with a decent diet, reducing alcohol and caffeine and taking supplements and advice on gaining quality sleep (taking dopeyness inducing decongestants) may assist (EAPs and CBT may help with this.) Peeps with sinusitis/rhinitis do not sleep well in day or night.
Then I would hit him with an open and frank (Sorry Frank!) conversation about childcare issues and how the company may be temporarily able to help him to manage that - otherwise if he is entitled to sick pay then the next cert that comes in will be signing him off sick with 'personal stress!' Then he won't be there at all ....... cynical? Me? Nah...
Kind Regards,
Catherine
