John
We recently queried this from Ovid and copied below is the information a colleagues received and forwarded.

Yes, I heard from Ovid yesterday. They’ve confirmed that the Ovid MEDLINE(R) 1996-Present segment has been replaced with the Ovid MEDLINE(R) without Revisions segment following the global reload.
With regard to revisions, I’ve had a bit of trouble unpicking what Ovid said so I’ve just pasted it below:
Remember that is considered a ‘Revision’ is any record that the National Library of Medicine has made a change to – and it could be something as simple as correcting a typographical error. Because we cannot put the corrected record into the proper segment until the Global Reload, and say they made a change to a record from 1994, then that record will appear in the 1996-present segment because we have added it to the database now (another reason NOT to do date range searching in MEDLINE using the Update Code). So we made it possible to have a MEDLINE segment without the corrections to avoid seeing the older citations (and probably duplicate citations of more recent citations).
In shorter words: Our Medline segments are based on Update Code and not Publication Year. If a correction is made to an article, it receives a new Update Code (example 2011) even when the Publication Year is from 1994. Therefore this old article will also be included in our MEDLINE 1996-Present segment until the next global reload. For customers who want to search MEDLINE 1996-Present without seeing old articles, our recent change to the 1996 segment is actually a great improvement for them.
The reply from Ovid is slightly confusing but it seems to suggest that we can change back to, or also display, the old segment if we wish. Let me know what you think.

Hi John,
I was wondering if you could shed some light in this issue. We have a
number of versions of Medline, one of which is Medline 'without
revisions'. I've been trying to get a definite answer about what
'without revisions' means but been unsuccessful. Do you have any ideas,
and what is the impact of searches from a 'standard version' of Medline
and one 'without revisions'
Thanks
Neil
