Your name in lights! An iPad in your pocket!
Well, your name on the cover of a journal, anyway. And not your name, so
much as the name you suggest as the new title of UKSG's journals,
Serials. Oh, and OK, so the iPad won't fit in your pocket. Are you going
to let that put you off?
Competition to suggest a new title for Serials
Serials: the journal for the serials community has been publishing
topical articles by librarians, publishers, technologists,
intermediaries and other scholarly information experts since 1988. The
first issue featured articles on subscription and fulfilment systems,
catalogues and cataloguing, and serials identifiers.
These days, we're not all about serials. The latest issue explores the
value of academic libraries, intellectual property, e-book purchasing
models, repository management and digital archive discovery, among other
things. While many of you understand this change in scope, we regularly
find people who are put off by the "misleading" title, and miss out on
valuable research or insight in areas more relevant to them than they
had expected.
So we're planning to introduce a new title for Serials from volume 25
(2012). And we'd like your help.
What do you call a journal that covers a broad range of topics from
e-resource management to impact to business models to measurement to
standards to sustainability to technology to ... yes, this list is
almost endless. And there's no punchline.
We'd like your suggestions as to what would be a suitable title to
represent the evolving scope of UKSG's interests. Simply email your
suggestion to [log in to unmask] by Friday 4th March 2011 to be in with a
chance of winning an iPad - and the admiration of your peers.
Full terms and conditions for the competition are at
www.uksg.org/serials/competition/t&c - please take a look to be sure of
a valid entry.
We look forward to your ideas!
Best wishes,

P.S. We understand that title changes are inconvenient; we apologise,
and hope you'll understand why we're doing this and will support us as
we try to help more people understand what the journal covers; in
return, we'll use our experience of initiatives like KBART and Transfer,
and the expertise of our committee members, to minimise the impact of
the title change.
