Re. www.srlan.org/beta
We are trying to identify academics and other experienced persons who
are prepared to serve as Country of Origin specialists who can write
documents or check documents for legal advisors working up cases for
Refugee Status Determination.
There are 53 countries that produce 10,000 or more refugees and
obviously these are the countries that we wish to provide such expertise
for first. If you have expertise in a refugee-producing country, would
you consider being list as a COI Expert? See
http://www.srlan.org/beta/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=120&Itemid=118.
As you see, we list every possible other source of such information so
it is unlikely that you will be bombarded with requests.
If you are listed, you would likely be first approached by a legal
adviser about a case to see if you have appropriate expertise. You can
then consider such a request. If it is a law firm in the 'west', you may
wish to charge for your services, but we are asking you to be prepared
to do this pro bono for the few lawyers or NGOs that function in the
Gloval South.
To be placed on the web, we would need a short paragraph concerning your
particular expertise and experience, your curriculum vitae and we would
ask you to confirm your committment to confidentiality in your
correspondence with a legal adviser who requests assistance (see The
Nairobi Code is available in PDF format:
http://www.srlan.org/beta/fileuploads/The_Nairobi_Code.pdf). Many
countries are very large and complex so we need people with expertise
in various parts and on various subjects.
