What most intrigues me about this topic is that, at the quality end of the influential films, they are most likely to indicate the true geniuses of cinema, as Kant would see them. Kant argued that genius is what gave the rule to art, and that geniuses were the influential ones who started new movements and genres.
In that light, what directors have been the true geniuses of the period 1990-2010?
