Dear Network members,
SECOND PEDEC WORKSHOP: ADVANCING FAIR REPRESENTATION IN PUBLIC AND
PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS IN THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN
The second PEDEC workshop will take place on Wednesday 30th March 2011
and a copy of the draft programme is attached. This workshop will
focus on the challenge of maintaining and improving equality and
diversity in public and profession life. The specific research
questions it will address are:
1. How will cuts in public spending impact on policies designed to
promote greater equality and diversity in public and professional life?
2. What strategies are needed to prevent progress from stalling in the
light of a changed political and economic environment?
3. What international examples can we draw on of effective strategies
for social inclusion in institutions of power?
4. What is the relationship between formal policies to improve
diversity and informal social networks and working arrangements (such
as unpaid internships) on access to high status work?
The venue for the workshop will be the Council Room at Queen Mary,
University of Londonís Mile End campus. Refreshments, including a
buffet lunch, will be provided.
If you are interested in participating, please let me know as soon as
possible. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Please also let me know if you have any specific dietary or support
requirements so that I can accommodate them on the day.
