Department
The Emerging Risk Solutions (ERS) team at RMS develops products to assist clients in managing new and developing risks within their portfolios. Examples of such risks include mass litigation, terrorism, and infectious disease. The primary role of the ERS team is to develop innovative but practical technologies our clients can operationalise in their day-to-day risk management activities. Such solutions begin with a core concept, and are taken through complete model and software development phases to deliver fully functional solutions to the marketplace.
Objective of the Senior Life & Health Modeler
The Modeler will work closely with other RMS experts in a variety of fields including medicine, epidemiology, and actuarial sciences to develop models of mortality, longevity, infectious disease and excess mortality risk and deliver consultation analyses for clients. The models will primarily be used to support decision making in the insurance industry and pension funds.
Key Accountabilities & Deliverables:
• Provide mathematical and statistical advice to the wider team.
• Operationalize modeling concepts.
• Develop models and submodels for longevity, mortality, infectious disease and excess mortality.
• Program model components for incorporation into prototypes.
• Construct and manage large databases of model inputs and outputs.
• Develop visualizations of data inputs and outputs.
• Provide modeling, statistical and programming support for development and consultation projects.
Experience Required:
• Quantitative degree such as physics, math, statistics or equivalent quantitative experience.Proficiency at an advanced level in calculus, probability and statistics, linear algebra, numerical methods, and a natural interest and ability to teach oneself new quantitative techniques.

• Scientific programming experience in R, matlab, or equivalent
• Ability to apply analytical and programming skills to solve unstructured problems requiring model development and data analysis.
