How He Gardens
Faithfully watering his plants
against the heat wave
thatıs what passersby see,
not what the plants know
just as they were quenching
their thirst, the water jet
wandered away from them,
not to return. Reluctant,
neglectful thatıs their gardener.
Keep the water off the rose leaves,
his wife asked. Too hard so theyıre
mouldy and black. Donıt let the jet
disperse the soil round roots!
Too hard, plants become unplanted.
The jet powers on, squirts the passing
birds, the neighbourıs cat. Best,
it spreads to catch slant sunbeams,
the gardenıs rainbow rainbow rainbow.
Wife taps sharp on the front window.
